Electronic Distribution
Electronic distribution consists of making annual tax document data available in computer-readable form through one or more of the below channels.

Application Program Interface (API)
Your company sponsors (or engages another company to sponsor) a server that interfaces with tax software. The tax software retrieves tax document data on behalf of a taxpayer from the server and imports the data into the tax return of the taxpayer. There are two available interfaces.
-
FDX REST API
Returns data in FDX JSON format. Uses FDX security approach.
-
OFX API
Returns data in OFX XML format. Uses OFX security concepts.
File Download
In addition to providing download of annual tax documents in human-readable form, allow download of the tax document data in a form that tax software can consume.

QR Code
On printed and PDF versions of annual tax documents, tax data may still be "electronically delivered" through the use of two-dimensional bar codes known as QR Codes.
